Why a Site Survey Matters Before Hiring a Temporary Event Structure
A beautiful site can still be a difficult build site. Ground conditions, access, underground services and working space can materially change how a temporary structure is installed.
A plan is useful, but it is not the whole site
Venue drawings and satellite images help with early feasibility, but they rarely show everything a structural team needs to know. Gradients, soft ground, hidden services, drainage, tree canopies, narrow gates, overhead cables and recent ground disturbance can all affect the proposed position or installation method.
What the survey is trying to establish
A competent survey looks at whether the selected location can support the proposed structure and whether it can be reached and built safely. It also helps identify where more information or testing is needed before final engineering decisions are made.
Ground conditions are part of the structure
A site may have plenty of room for the completed structure but insufficient room for delivery vehicles, unloading, plant or a safe working zone. Build and breakdown also have to be considered alongside other contractors competing for the same access.
Why early surveys save money
Discovering a problem during installation is almost always more expensive than identifying it during planning. A survey gives the project team time to redesign the layout, change the programme or agree a suitable technical solution before crews and equipment arrive on site.
