Sales & Commercial Manager
£45,000-£55,000 basic + performance bonus | OTE circa £70,000-£75,000+ | Hybrid
Access Displays is looking for a commercially driven Sales & Commercial Manager to lead an experienced sales team and help us deliver the next stage of our growth.
This is not a conventional sales management job. We are not looking for someone to sit behind a spreadsheet, count calls or micromanage experienced salespeople.
We want someone who can lead by example, improve conversion, protect margin, develop long-term customer relationships and get personally involved when an important opportunity needs additional commercial experience to help close it.
What Makes This Role Different?
You will operate on both sides of the commercial relationship.
You will work with customers to negotiate stronger, longer-term agreements while also working with suppliers and partners to secure better buying terms. That means you can directly influence gross profit through better selling and better buying.
If a customer asks for a discount, we want someone who thinks beyond simply saying yes or no. Could that discount be exchanged for a 24-month commitment, an agreed annual spend, earlier order confirmation or a wider programme of work?
Our aim is to build a stronger forward order book and more profitable, long-term customer relationships – not simply chase the next order.
Your Objectives
- Help deliver 20% year-on-year sales growth.
- Increase departmental gross profit by 4% over the first 12 months.
- Improve conversion rates and commercial discipline.
- Reduce unnecessary discounting.
- Increase proactive new-business and account-development activity.
- Strengthen the forward order book through longer-term customer commitments.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead, motivate and coach an experienced sales team without micromanaging.
- Distribute leads according to skills, product knowledge, experience and proven conversion performance.
- Analyse who converts which products most successfully and use that knowledge to improve lead allocation and training.
- Double up with salespeople on strategically important opportunities, helping steer relationships, agree follow-up and close business.
- Monitor gross profit and identify who is selling on value and where margin is being unnecessarily given away.
- Conduct focused sales meetings and turn performance data into action.
- Find out the real reasons why we lose business and identify what needs to change so we win more often.
- Develop Platinum, Gold and Silver accounts and identify customers who would benefit from face-to-face engagement.
- Ensure Microsoft Dynamics 365 contains accurate leads, quotations, notes, follow-up actions and lost-order information.
- Encourage Trustpilot reviews and customer feedback.
- Negotiate with suppliers to improve buying prices and commercial terms.
- Negotiate with customers to protect margin and secure longer-term agreements.
- Once you have proved yourself, take increasing responsibility for shaping, managing and recruiting your own sales team.
About Our Sales Environment
Access Displays has been built on long-term customer relationships, repeat business and experienced people. Many members of our wider team have been with us for 10, 20 and even 25+ years.
Our salespeople have advanced knowledge of the exhibition and display industry and our broad product portfolio, including custom and modular exhibition stands, panel and pole systems, retail and museum-grade glass display cases, marquees and outdoor event equipment, furniture, graphics, AV and associated services.
You do not necessarily need to know every one of these products from day one. Industry experience is advantageous, but we are also interested in proven sales leaders from related project-led B2B sectors who understand complex quotations, gross margin, supplier negotiation, key accounts and long-term contracts.
Who We’re Looking For
You will be commercially confident, numerate and comfortable challenging experienced salespeople while still earning their trust. You will understand that successful sales management is not about taking over people’s accounts; it is about helping good salespeople become more successful.
You should be equally comfortable discussing a major customer opportunity, negotiating with a supplier, analysing conversion data, challenging a weak margin and coaching someone through how they could approach the next opportunity differently.
Above all, we want someone who can help Access Displays buy better, sell better, negotiate better and build more profitable long-term customer relationships.
Package
Basic salary: £45,000-£55,000 depending on experience.
Performance-related bonus with an indicative OTE of approximately £70,000-£75,000+, linked to departmental gross profit, growth, conversion and strategic commercial objectives.
For the right person, this is an opportunity to prove your ability with an established team and then take increasing ownership for building and developing the sales function required for the next stage of Access Displays’ growth.
